ABOUT
Hydrochrome (or spray-on chrome) is a chemical coating process that sprays a thin, reflective layer of pure silver onto various surfaces (metal, plastic, glass, wood) to create a durable, mirror-like metallic finish, acting as an affordable, versatile alternative to traditional electroplating. It involves applying a base coat, a silvering solution (often silver nitrate), and a protective topcoat, allowing for customization with colour tints and use in automotive, art, and design.
Hydrochrome can be applied to virtually any surface that can be primed and painted, including plastics, wood, metal, glass, fiberglass, ceramic, and even 3D prints, creating a durable, mirror-like silver finish or any custom colour, commonly used for automotive parts, but home decor, art, and consumer goods also. For automotive use, a tougher "Extreme" system with superior adhesion and UV resistance is applied. Hydrochrome application involves meticulous surface preparation, applying a high-gloss black base coat, followed by spraying a chemical activator, then simultaneously spraying two silvering solutions (A/B/C mix) to create a mirror finish, and finally sealing with a durable clear coat, all done with specialized spray guns to achieve a real, bonded silver layer
